How long did it take for you to realize you were pregnant?:
I found out right away. I was only 4-6 weeks pregnant when I found out. Looking back, I think I just had 'that feeling' that I knew I was pregnant.
Where were you when you found out?:
In my bedroom at my parent's house. Well, if you want to get technical I was in the bathroom (usually where you take pregnancy tests)
Did you like being pregnant?:
I loved it. Mostly because I got to take millions of pictures of my belly. I had a fairly good pregnancy, I hope my next ones are the same.
Did you want to wait to find out the sex?:
No, I needed to know. I was almost too afraid to find out because I was afraid it would have been a boy. Hehe.
Did you crave anything?:
Cocoa puffs, cherry bombs, and Subway's Spicy Italian with obnoxious amounts of mayo.
Did you sleep alot?:
I wanted to. At the end it is nearly impossible to get comfortable with a watermelon under your shirt.
Would you do it again?:
I would prefer not to, but I would love more children, so yes.
What were you doing when you went into labor?:
I wasn't specifically doing anything, my labor happened gradually over a few days. It started with mild cramping and just got worse. I went to the hospital at about 10P.M. because I was afraid. (There is something about being in a hospital when you have pain that just eases your nerves, ya know?) I wasn't even really 'in labor' when I went in either, I was just in 'pre' labor. The nurses gave me the option to go home and progress or stay, I stayed and had Annie the next afternoon. I didn't have that experience where you are frolicking along one minute and all of a sudden BAM you are screaming in agony the next. It was kind of just boring and predictable.
Did you get drugs?:
I most certainly did. I'm quite a baby. The drugs didn't help for very long. Only about 2 hours, then they gave me something to speed up labor so it would just be done and over with and so I would just shut up about how I was going to sue them if they didn't give me a C-section. Pregnant people are dangerous.
How long was your labor?:
Technically days, but hard labor I actually don't remember. Sometime in the morning until 4 PM.. You do the math. :)
Was it as bad as everyone said?:
Yes and no. It was extremely painful, and I am traumatized by how awful it was, but nontheless.. I did not scream. I don't even think I made any noise other than a few wimpers now and then. But, the lady in the room next to mine was screaming LOUD, I thought she was dying. And this was before my hard labor began, so you can just imagine how terrified I was, just knowing that I was next.
What did you think the first time you realized it was "almost time" for him/her?:
"Please be a girl." No lie.
What did you think the first time you heard him/her cry?:
Well, I didn't hear her cry for almost 2 weeks, but it was the scariest thing ever. Her throat was swollen because of the tubes so it sounded like a battered sheep. Poor little thing.
Your first reaction when you first saw him/her?:
She's huge!! She was pretty chunky but that was because her lungs stopped working and her heart, liver, and kidneys were swollen. Her stomach looked bigger than mine!
How long did you stay?:
Overnight. Ususally you are supposed to stay a few days, but since Annie was transferred I got the OK to leave early.
Is your baby difficult or easy?:
I don't have anything to compare her to, but I would say she isn't very difficult, it doesn't take much to get her to flash her big jack-o-lantern smile. She's extremely joyful, and everyone who walks by her wherever we are comments on how content or happy she is. She is a blessing.
How old is your baby now?:
14 months
Colicy?:
She was colicy at around 2-3 months, but switching formula and bottles helped a lot.
Scariest pregnancy memory?:
Every time I got in a car. I was so paranoid about getting in an accident with her in my belly. I would put a pillow between her and the seatbelt. Ha.
Worst Labor memory?:
Which one? Ha.. C'mon, it's LABOR!
Favorite new baby memory?:
Seeing Annie in her first outfit. She was nakey for the first 2 weeks at the hospital, but one morning I arrived to find her in a cute pink jamma suit. :)
Worst new baby memory?:
Well, other than the obvious complications, probably the MRIs Annie had to have. She has one ventricle that's smaller than the other in her brain, nothing is wrong though, they said it was kind of like her own little trademark that made her special (even more).
Do you parent by the book?:
Pretty much. I've read pretty much every baby book there is before Annie was born, it's kind of hard not to. I just can't stand when other people try to tell you how to parent your child, or make comments on how you are raising them.
Breast milk or formula?
Both. I planned on BFing for a long time, but because of Annie being in the hospital and having a feeding tube it was nearly impossible. I pumped for her for over 4 months, and made enough milk for her to drink at least 4 ounces of breast milk a day until she was 10 months. (I had A LOT! Most moms at the NICU only had 1 or 2 drawers in the 'cummunity milk freezer', I had about 4 or5 drawers..) But we also needed to put her on formula (mixed with milk) so she could gain weight faster. She lost a lot of birth weight and had to gain it back before we could take her home.
Things I love that begin with I: Ice cream..That's about it!
