'D' is for Dentist

UGH UGH UGH.. Thursday Henry and I went to the dentist. When was the last time I've gone? Let's just say its been too long for me and even longer for Henry. So, I had one cavity (I think my first EVER) and some other things that need to be filled. Apparently I grind my teeth when I sleep and it's been ruining them. The dentist wants to make me a mouth guard so I don't do it anymore, I thought that was a good idea.. until I saw the price. $650, and insurance didn't even cover it.. WOW! So, I took a stroll down to trusty ol' Walmart and found this..

$20 and problem solved. It actually works very well, you just boil it to make it soft and then form it to your mouth and it stays that shape. I'm not convinced that the dentist would have used anything different. I also found some 'at home fillings' too, but I decided that would be taking my rebellion a little too far.

Before our appointment I was telling Henry how I didn't understand how people were so afraid of the dentist. After our appointment I took that statement back. It was awful. I guess I have something wrong with my jaw that I couldn't keep my mouth open for over 10 seconds without it hurting like crazy. The dentist wondered if it was TMJ. We'll see. But, I actually cried because it hurt so bad. I felt like an idiot.
This dentist was a jerk.
After my fillings I am going elsewere. I would like my new dentist to be Mr. Rogers.

Here are some fun dentist facts:

-32% of Americans cite bad breath as the least attractive trait of their co-workers.
-The average toothbrush contains about 2,500 bristles grouped into about 40 tufts per toothbrush
-33% of Americans have untreated tooth decay
-The most valuable tooth belonged to Sir Isaac Newton. In 1816 one of his teeth was sold in London for $3,633.00 or in today's terms $35,700.00  The tooth was set in a ring
-More than 300 types of bacteria make up dental plaque
-Like fingerprints, everyone’s tongue print is different
-More people use blue toothbrushes than red ones

Things I love that begin with D: Dolls, Dragonflies, Dinner, Dipping sauce

  1. I'm a dentist-phobe. I'm lucky to have such nice teeth...I couldn't handle going anymore than once every couple of years. :(
